Post-disaster poverty fears on rise as rate reviewed

The government is set to review the poverty rate after fears that thousands of families are likely fall below the poverty line following the severe floods that devastated many parts of Laos.

The natural disaster – the worst in decades – impacted 2,409 out of 8,464 villages in 115 of the 148 districts across the country. The floods affected villages in 15 of the 18 provinces in the country, according to a government report.
